CLEMSON, SC – The 13th-ranked Clemson women’s tennis team opened the 2014 season with a pair of victories at the Clemson Indoor Tennis Center on Saturday. The Tigers (2-0) topped Troy, 4-0, and Charleston Southern, 6-1, in improving to 17-0 all-time under Head Coach Nancy Harris in season-opening dual matches.  Sophomore Tristen Dewar clinched both matches on her way to the 11th and 12th wins of the 2013-14 season. Jessy Rompies and Joana Eidukonyte each earned their first dual match victories of their respective careers against the Buccaneers.  The Tigers did not drop a doubles decision, and won eight of nine singles matches as well. Rompies and Beatrice Gumulya led the way in doubles, winning each of their matches together by 6-0 scores.  In the first match against Troy, Gumulya and Rompies won their doubles matchup, 6-0, to clinch the doubles point. Troy did not field a team on court three doubles or court six singles due to injury.  In singles play, All-American and ACC Scholar Athlete of the Year, Yana Koroleva wasted no time on court one, taking down Trang Huynh, 6-0, 6-1, for her first dual match win of the season.  No. 103 Tristen Dewar, playing as a ranked player for the first time, defeated Margot De Haan, 6-0, 6-1 to clinch the match for Clemson, who improved to 6-0 all-time against the Trojans.  In the second match against CSU, the Tigers claimed all three doubles matches, and rolled to the first five singles decisions. Ani Miao was the first player to earn a singles point, taking a 6-1, 6-1 win on court three. Romy Koelzer won her first career match at flight one convincingly, taking down Marketa Placha, 6-0, 6-3. Rompies (7-6, 6-0) and Eidukonyte (6-1, 6-0) earned victories as Clemson improved to 2-0 all-time against the Buccaneers.  The Tigers will return to action next week in the ITA Kickoff Weekend against Fresno State.  Results Troy vs Clemson Jan 18, 2014 at Clemson, SC (Clemson Indoor Tennis Center) #13 Clemson 4, Troy 0 Singles competition 1. #74 Yana Koroleva (CU) def.
