No. 11 Women’s Tennis Drops Match to 12th-ranked Miami

CLEMSON, SC – The 11th-ranked Clemson women’s tennis team (10-5, 0-2 ACC) fell to the 12th-ranked University of Miami (FL) Hurricanes (10-2, 3-0 ACC), 6-1 on Sunday afternoon at the Clemson Indoor Tennis Center. Today’s match was last of the Tigers’ seven straight matches against top-25 opponents, and the eighth in the last nine overall.

The Cane’s denied Nancy Harris her 85th win against ACC competition, which would be a Clemson record for wins.

The Tigers dropped all three matches in doubles play. Miami entered the match with #27 ranked doubles pair of Bartenstein and Eichkorn, who defeated Belaya and Wong 8-4 at flight one.

The Tigers struggles continued in singles play. The Hurricanes took the first two matches in flight to and flight four singles. The Tigers responded with Nelly Ciolkowski defeating Danielle Mills 6-3, 7-5 at number three singles.

Miami then won at flight six to clinch the match for the Hurricanes. Miami would go on to win at number five singles as well to go up 5-1, Eichkorn’s win over Bek finished the match at 6-1 in favor of the Canes. Miami moved to 22-4 all-time against the Tigers and 10-1 in Clemson.

The top-15 singles showdown at flight one was the highlight of the day, with Miami’s No. 10 Bianca Eichkorn taking down No. 15 Josipa Bek, 6-7, 6-3, 7-6, going to two tiebreak sets in the match.

The Tigers were without No. 104 Klara Vyskocilova for the second straight match due to injury.

The Tigers will return to action Friday when they will travel to Tampa, FL to take on the South Florida Bulls at 2:00PM.
