No. 10 Clemson Starts ACC Season With 1-0 Victory Over Notre Dame

Clemson, S.C. – The No. 10 Clemson women’s soccer team opened ACC competition with a 1-0 victory over the Notre Dame Fighting Irish at Historic Riggs Field. In the two teams’ sixth meeting in school history, the Tigers got the advantage and moved to 7-0-1 on the season with their third straight win.

After a scoreless first half, Mackenzie Smith pushed the Tigers ahead with a powerful shot grazing the crossbar before landing across the goal line. Smith’s first goal of the season was assisted by Renee Guion, who tallied her ninth assist of the season.

Clemson goalkeeper Sandy MacIver earned her third shutout with three saves all coming in the final 19 minutes of the match. In total, the Tigers outshot the Irish 12-9 on the evening with Smith, Speckmaier and Morris all adding three shots to their season total. 

Next Thursday, the Tigers continue conference action at home, taking on No. 6 Florida State at Historic Riggs Field at 7:30 p.m.
