Ninth-Ranked Tigers Take Down Furman on Thursday

CLEMSON, SC – The No. 9 Clemson Women’s Tennis team defeated Furman by a score of 6-1 on Thursday afternoon at the Clemson Indoor Tennis Center to move to 8-0 on the season. The Tigers swept the doubles point, and then won five singles matches in moving to 41-3 all-time against the Paladins (1-1).

The Tigers will return to action on Saturday to take on No. 12 Georgia at 11:00AM at the Clemson Indoor Tennis Center. Admission is free of charge.

The Tigers started the match by sweeping all three doubles matches. The No. 2 nationally ranked pair of Jospia Bek and Keri Wong defeated Boyette and Kline, 8-5, after trailing 5-4 in the match to take the doubles advantage.

Then Caroline Magnusson teamed up for an 8-3 victory over Furman’s Murray and Oudin. Maria Belaya and Klara Vyskocilova finished doubles play by winning a hard-fought tiebreaker set 7-5 to take the match 8-7.

The Tigers continued their success in singles with #48 Keri Wong defeating Lauren Kline by a score of 6-1, 6-2 in the number two singles match.

In the number one singles match, #12 Josipa Bek was challenged in the first set by #69 Monica Arguello. Bek trailed Arguello 4-1 but battled back to take the set 7-5. Bek then went on to take the second set 6-4 to win the match.

Klara Vyskocilova clinched the match for the Tigers with 6-4, 6-4 against Margaret Boyette in the number four doubles match. Nelly Ciolkowski followed with a 6-4, 7-5 victory against Katherine Oudin.

Clemson split the final two singles matches of the day, both of which went to three sets and were forced into a super tiebreak sets. Caroline Magnusson defeated Amanda Murray 6-3, 4-6, 1-0 in the number five match.
