Clemson’s Homecoming celebration, Tigerama, takes place on Friday, Oct. 23 at 8 p.m. at Memorial Stadium. This year, the event is celebrating 70 years of tradition and unification of the Clemson Family in one night.
The idea behind Tigerama originally sparked from Clemson alumnus Joe Sherman, who envisioned an experience for anyone within earshot to feel the spirit and pride of being a part of Clemson at the end of Homecoming week. Since its birth, Tigerama has expanded to include performances by student organizations, philanthropic efforts, fireworks and a musical artist spotlight to end the night the Friday of Homecoming week.
The 70th Tigerama invites you to board “Flight 1889” alongside fellow students, alumni and community members. Before the show, there is a free block party from 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. under the north side stadium breezeway next to Avenue of Champions. The block party includes a variety of food and beverage options, a bouncy house for families and tables from local businesses and student organizations.
The show begins at 8 p.m. and includes performances and skits from student groups, fraternities, athletes and more. The night concludes with our historical fireworks show and a performance by indie rock band, West 22nd, whose most notable songs include “Sunburns” and “Virginia Highlands.”
This year’s theme is “Flight 1889,” which signifies every student and alumni’s journey as a Clemson Tiger. It is a reminder that while we consider Clemson a place we inevitably depart from, it always calls us home, granting us a safe place to land time and time again. The path behind us has prepared us, the runway is before us and now it is time to take off.
Regardless of when you donned the orange and purple, you are and always will be a part of this journey as we remain grounded in tradition while soaring to new heights. Tigerama serves as the annual representation of those who came before us, those who are here now and those who follow after us. Tigerama No. 70 is the opportunity to glance again at what lies “O’er the mountain height.”
Tigerama was started in 1957, with Joe Blandford serving as the first director alongside Clemson Blue Key, as a Homecoming pep rally to celebrate Clemson students and traditions. Seventy years later, it is the second-largest entirely student-run pep rally in the nation. Thousands of students and alumni gather each year on the Friday before the Homecoming football game to celebrate the traditions that bring them together.
This year’s directors are South Carolina natives Catherine Taylor and Jack Price. Taylor is a senior nursing student and Price is a junior political science student. This year, we are pleased to offer student tickets priced at $10 per person and community tickets priced at $15 per person.
