MIAMI – Talea Mitchell led the way for the Tigers with 12 kills on 22 swings in an errorless effort against the Miami Hurricanes. Despite her 12 kills and Anika Groom’s 13, the Tigers fell 3-1 to Miami.
Maddie Anspaugh played in her first match since Sept. 18 and started off her return performance with a solo block on the first point of the match. Additionally, Talea Mitchell returned to the lineup for the first time since the team’s trip to Wofford. The momentum from their two returns carried the Tigers throughout the set as they went on to force extra points and ultimately win the first set 28-26. It was a gutsy setter dump from Katherine Sandt that clinched the set for the Tigers.
The second set was a battle throughout too, but the Hurricanes went on a run towards the end of the first set to level the match with a 25-20 set two win. The Hurricanes continued their momentum into the second set and after coming away with a lead early were able to get a 25-19 win in set three.
The Hurricanes took a 4-0 lead to start the third set and turned it into a 15-9 lead at the media timeout. From there, they went on to push out to a 18-11 lead that forced the Tigers into another timeout. In the fourth set, Talea Mitchell completed her errorless night to get herself to a season-best 12 kills on 22 swings. She finished the night with a season-best 15.5 points.
With the 3-1 loss the Tigers are now 6-11 on the season and 0-5 in conference play.
