CLEMSON, S.C. – Senior setter Katherine Sandt tallied 43 assists in the Tigers’ 3-1 win versus East Carolina, surpassing her 2000th assist of her career. Sandt rounded out her night with a career-best eight kills.
How It Happened:
The Tigers controlled the pace of the first set, going up 7-3 in the early stages. Katherine Sandt would go on to record her 2000th career assist on a Lina Merz attack to make it a 13-8 lead in the second set. From there, the Tigers would win the first set 25-17 with five kills from Alyssa Irwin leading the team.
In the second set, the Tigers struggled to attack while the Pirates found their rhythm Despite Anika Groom tallying six kills in the second set, Clemson would drop the set 25-18 after ECU hit .344 throughout.
The Tiger’s attack was effective in the third set, hitting at a .379 mark with 16-5-29 attack line. Leading the way was Maddie Anspaugh with six kills to put her in double digits for the fifth time in her six-match career so far. The Tigers won the third set 25-17.
In the fourth set, Sandt recorded five kills to put herself at a career-best nine kills on the night. She would help Clemson to a .350 attack percentage and to a 25-19 win in the fourth set. Along the way, Claire Luoma also recorded 22 digs on the night
With the 3-1 win the Tigers are now 4-1 on the season.
