The Clemson women’s and men’s cross-country teams competed in the Eye Opener meet on Friday night. The men captured first overall with 17 points, and the women earned second with 52 points. In the women’s 5k, Nancy Cherop earned the individual victory with a meet record time of 16:24.60.

SPARTANBURG, S.C. The Clemson women’s and men’s cross-country teams competed in the Eye Opener meet on Friday night. The men captured first overall with 17 points, and the women earned second with 52 points. In the women’s 5k, Nancy Cherop earned the individual victory with a meet record time of 16:24.60. 

Silvia Jelelgo (second place) and Elizabeth Ilanda (seventh place) were the other two Tigers to finish in the top-10 of the women’s 5k.

Brendan Gomez led the men in the 8k, finishing second and earning one point. Garrett Brown and Jack Hearld were close behind, finishing third and fourth, respectively. The men finished with 10 runners inside the top 15.

Clemson will compete in the Hokie Invitational on Friday, Sept. 18. The meet, hosted by Virginia Tech, will take place at the Buford Meredith Cross Country Course in Blacksburg, Va.
