CLEMSON, S.C. — Clemson improved by five shots, but remained in 12th place out of 18 teams at the Inverness Intercollegiate on Monday. The Tigers had a team score of 10 over par 294 on the famed par 71 course that measures 7,554 yards.
Clemson is one of 18 teams in the field at Inverness. The list of teams includes 10 teams (including Clemson) who reached the NCAA Tournament. The list includes defending national champion Auburn and seven other teams who reached the NCAA finals.
Clemson is first among the three ACC teams in the field, as the Tigers are at +25, Wake Forest is at +31 and Virginia is +32. The tournament concludes on Tuesday with the final 18 holes at the course that has been the site of six PGA major championships.
Oscar Valdemar Holm Bredkjær was Clemson’s top player on Monday with a one over par 72. He had three bogeys, two birdies and 13 pars in his second round. He is now +3 for the first two rounds and is in a tie for 20th place out of the 90 golfers in the field.
Biagio Gagliardi, Hampton Roberts and Rich Wills all has rounds of three-over-par 74 in the second round. Gagliardi had five bogeys and two birdies and stands in 56th place with a 150 total for 36 holes. This is his first round as a Clemson golfer after transferring from Florida Atlantic.
Roberts, a transfer from North Carolina playing in his first tournament for the Tigers, had four bogeys and a birdie in scoring his 74 and he stands in 73rd place at 153 after two rounds. Wills had an opening round 81, but improved to a 74 in the second round and stands at 155 for 83rd place.
Gabriel Holtz, a freshman from Boca Raton, was Clemson’s non-counter on Monday with a five over par 76, but he is Clemson’s second best golfer through two rounds with a 147 score, five over par, good enough for 32nd-place.
The scoring average for the field improved slightly from 75 in the first round on Sunday to 74 on Monday.
