CLEMSON, S.C. — Oscar Valdemar Holm Bredkjær fired a five-under-par 66 on Tuesday and finished tied for second to highlight Clemson’s performance at the Inverness Intercollegiate at Inverness Golf Cub in Toledo, Ohio. The Clemson team finished 13th among the the 18 teams in the field.
The season opening tournament for the Tigers featured 10 teams that played in the NCAA Tournament last year. The Tigers were first among ACC teams with a score of 32-over par 884, 12 shots ahead of Wake Forest and 16 ahead of Virginia. Defending national champion Auburn won the tournament by one shot over host school Toledo. The Rockets were 15 shots better than Auburn in the last round, but lost by a shot.
Bredkjaer finished just one stroke out of first for the three-day, 54-hole event on the course that has played host to six major championships. Bence Bertenyl of host school Toledo won the tournament with a score of three under par 210. Bredkjaer was tied for second with Ben Gregg of Texas Tech at 211. Bredkjaer’s final round 66 tied for the low individual round of the tournament. Those were the only golfers under par for the tournament in the 90 player field.
Bredkjaer, a transfer from San Francisco in his second year at Clemson, was two-over-par on Tuesday after six holes, then made seven birdies over his last 12 holes to close within a shot of the lead. He had a streak of four consecutive birdies on holes 7-10 to tie the long birdie streak of his Clemson career.
The native of Denmark had rounds of 73-72-66 for a 211 total to record the best tournament finish of his Clemson career. His best finish last year was seventh place at the Bryan Brothers Collegiate. He won a tournament in April of 2024 as a freshman at San Francisco.
For the tournament, Bredkjaer tied for the lead in birdies with 12 and was second in par four scoring average at 4.03. He also played the par three holes in 2.89 for a top 10 performance as well.
Bredkjaer was the only Clemson golfer to break par on Tuesday. Gabriel Holtz a freshman from Boca Raton, Fla. shot a four-over-par 75 and finished at 222, nine-over-par for the three rounds, good enough for 45th place, second among Tiger golfers. He tied Bredkjaer for team honors in par three scoring with a 2.89 performance.
Biagio Gagliardi also had a 75 in the final round to finish with 223 score to rank third among Tigers at the Inverness Intercollegiate. He had seven birdies on the par 71 course that measured over 7500 yards. Hampton Roberts was a third Tiger to score 75 on Tuesday and finished at 228 for the tournament, 15-over-par.
Junior Rich Wills was Clemson’s non-counting score on Tuesday with a 79 and he finished at 234 for his 54 holes.
