CLEMSON, S.C. — Clemson will open its 2026-27 men’s golf season at the Inverness Intercollegiate at Inverness Golf Club in Toledo, Ohio on Sunday, September 13. The 54-hole event will run September 13-15 on the venue that has been the site of six PGA Tour major championships.
Head coach Jordan Byrd will take three juniors, one senior and one freshman to the Inverness Intercollegiate. The Clemson roster includes Rich Wills and Hampton Roberts, who played in the U.S. Amateur at Merion last month.
Oscar Valdemar Holm Bredkjaer will be Clemson’s number-one player in the lineup. The junior led Clemson in stroke average last year at 71.86. He had eight rounds in the 60s and 15 rounds at par or better over his 29 rounds in 10 tournaments. The golfer who transferred to Clemson from San Francisco prior to last season, was 22-under-par for six rounds during Clemson’s preseason qualifying tournament, best on the team.
True freshman Gabriel Holtz was second during the qualifying tournament with a 20-under-par score and will be play in the number-two position. The native of Boca Raton, Fla. won 30 junior events over his career.
Roberts was the only Clemson golfer to advance to match play at the US. Amateur. He spent his previous three years as a part-time starter at North Carolina. He shot 15-under-par for the six qualifying events leading up to Inverness.
Junior Biagio Gagliardi is a transfer from Florida Atlantic. He had a team best 71.9 stroke average with three top five finishes last year for the Panthers. The junior came to the United States from Rome, Italy. He was 14 under par for the six qualifying rounds.
Wills is a junior who will be in his third year as a Clemson starter. He had a 72.57 stroke average last year, third on the team. This past summer he became the first Clemson golfer to win the North Carolina Amateur since 1978. He also qualified for the U.S. Amateur at Merion this past summer. He was fifth during the preseason team qualifying tournament at 12-under-par.
Clemson is one of 18 teams in the field at Inverness. The list of teams includes 10 teams (including Clemson) who reached the NCAA Tournament. The list includes defending national champion Auburn and seven other teams who reached the NCAA finals.
Six of the schools are from the SEC (LSU, Vanderbilt, Tennessee, Oklahoma, Mississippi and Auburn). The ACC is represented by Clemson, Wake Forest and Virginia, while the Big Ten is represented by Ohio State, Purdue. Michigan and Iowa. Other teams in the field are Texas Tech, Austin Peay, East Tennessee State, Loyola Marymount, and host school Toledo.
This will be Clemson’s second appearance at the Inverness Intercollegiate. The Tigers finished 12th of 14 teams in the fall of 2024.
