CLEMSON, S.C. — Former Clemson All-American Jacob Bridgeman has been named to the United States Presidents Cup team. The team was announced by team captain Brandt Snedeker on the Golf Channel on Tuesday afternoon. Bridgeman is the first former Clemson golfer to be named to the US Presidents Cup team since 2009 when Lucas Glover was named. Glover was also named in 2007 and is the only other former Tiger to be named.
The Presidents Cup will be played at Medinah Country Club in Medinah, Ill. from September 24-27. It will be televised by NBC Sports and the Golf Channel.
Bridgman ranked 12th on the Presidents Cup points list this year. Twelve golfers are selected for the U.S. and International teams. Ben Griffin was ranked eighth and J.J. Spaun was ranked 10th, but were not selected by Snedeker.
Bridgeman has had a record breaking year in terms of accomplishment on the course among former Clemson golfers on the PGA Tour. He finished the year with a tie for fourth place at the FedEx Championship on Sunday at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta where he shot 11-under-par for 72 holes. His fourth place finish is the best finish by any former Clemson golfer at the Tour Championship.
This year, Bridgeman led the PGA Tour in strokes gained putting and average distance of made putts per round (83’8”). He was second in total birdies (384) and scoring average on par four hoes (3.96). He finished the year 11th on the PGA Tour in earnings with over $9.985 million.
Bridgeman finished the FedEx Cup schedule with 11 top 25 finishes, six top 10s and four top fives. He made the cut in all but one event. A highlight of the year was his victory at the Genesis Invitational at Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif.
The native of Inman, S.C. was a starter on the Clemson team between 2018-22.
Bridgeman is ranked second in Clemson history in career stroke average (70.74), tied for first in career victories (5) and first in rounds in the 60s (50).
He was named an honorable mention All-American as a sophomore, and a second team All-American as a junior and senior. In 2022 as a senior he was named the ACC Player of the Year, the ACC Golf Scholar Athlete of the Year (for the second time) and won the ACC Tournament, one of just two ACC players to do all three in the same year.
The 2022 Clemson graduate is one of three rookies on the U.S. Presidents Cup team. Chris Gotterup and Jackson Koivun are also first time players. Other members of the United States team are Scottie Scheffler, Cameron Young, Wyndham Clark, Sam Burns, Russell Henley, Collin Morikawa, Xander Schauffele, Justin Thomas, and Patrick Cantlay.
