CLEMSON, S.C. – Clemson Volleyball started their season off with a 3-1 win over Charleston Southern, highlighted by a 15-kill night for freshman Maddie Anspaugh.
In addition to Anspaugh’s night, two Tigers had double-doubles, with Claire Luoma having 21 digs and 11 assists while Katherine Sandt had 35 assists with 11 digs.
The Tigers opened the first set with a lopsided 25-12 as the team hit an .517 throughout. The team tallied 15 kills on 29 swings while adding 3.0 blocks as a team, with two from Talea Mitchell. Maddie Anspaugh swung .800 (4-0-5) in her debut set as a Tiger.
The team continued its effective attack into the second set, swinging .317 but upped its blocking game to tally six blocks, including four solo blocks, in set two. The team put up another lopsided score, going up 2-0 with a 25-14 score in set two. Anspaugh led the attackers in set two with another five kills.
The Buccaneers found their rhythm in set three, taking the set 25-15. While Clemson struggled offensively, recording just nine kills in the third set, Charleston Southern tallied 14 of their own.
The momentum swung back in favor of the Tigers with Anspaugh tallying six more kills. She had 15 kills on the night, the most by any freshman in a debut game since Kennedy Wagner in 2023. Additionally, Claire Luoma had nine digs and four assists in the final set to earn her first career double-double. Their work helped Clemson win the fourth set 25-20.
With the 3-1 victory the Tigers start 2026 the season 1-0.
