Bridgeman Makes Cut at Third Major This Year
Former Clemson All-American Jacob Bridgeman made the cut at the 2026 Open Championship at Royal Birkdale Golf Club in England on Friday. The native of Inman, S.C. fired a one-under-par 69 to finish 36 holes at one-under-par 139, seven shots off the lead held by Lucas Herbert, who fired a 62 on Friday to tie the record for low score during a major championship.
Bridgeman has six birdies, 25 pars and five bogeys through 36 holes thanks to scores of 70 and 69. He stands in 38th place after the first two rounds with the 139 total.
Brideman has now made the cut in three of the four major championships this year. Glover is just the third former Clemson golfer to make the cut in three of the four majors in the same year. Lucas Glover accomplished the feat four times (2010, 2011, 2019 and 2025). Kyle Stanley did it in 2012 and 2018. No Clemson golfer has made the cut in all four major championships in the same year.
Bridgeman’s one-under-par score is tied for the second lowest score vs. par for the first 36 holes by a former golfer at the Open Championship. Glover was four-under-par for the first 36 holes in 2011 at Royal St. George’s. Glover (2010), Stanley (2012), Stanley (2018), Glover (2019) and Glover (2025), were also -1 through the first 36 holes at the Open Championship.
Friday’s round was his third round in the 60s (all 69) in major championships this year. He had a 69 in the third round at the Masters, leading to a #41 place finish, and a 69 in the final round of the US Open, leading to a 39th place finish.
The 26-year-old has now made the cut in 18 of 19 tournaments this year. He ranks third on the PGA Tour in strokes gained putting, is fifth in three-point avoidance and is ninth in money earned so far this year at $7.374 million.
Martin Makes Double Eagle at Corales Puntacana Championship
Former Clemson All-American Ben Martin made the third double eagle by a former Clemson golfer on the PGA Tour on Friday at the Corales Puntacana Championship at the Corales Golf Course in Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic.
Martin made the shot on the par-five fourth hole, that measures 550 yards. The 2010 Clemson graduate used a five-iron from 231 yards to make the double eagle. He finished the day with a score of three-under-par 69 to make the cut for his second straight tournament.
Other former Clemson golfers who have made a double eagle in a PGA Tour event are Charles Raulerson and Lucas Glover. Raulerson made a two from 202 yards on the par five first hole at the Doral Ryder Open on March 5, 1999. Glover accomplished the feat at the John Deere Classic on July 9, 2019 on the 10th hole when he made a shot from 255 yards.
This is actually the second time this year that Martin has made a double eagle in a professional golf tournament. Martin made a double eagle on the 17th hole in the third round at the Colonial Life Charity Classic in Elgin, SC on May 13, 2026.
Former Tiger Carson Young also made a double eagle on the same hole on the same day at the same tournament.
