CLEMSON, S.C. — Former Clemson All-American Jacob Bridgeman finished in a tie for 28th at the Open Championship at Royal Birkdale on Sunday with a 72-hole score of 278, two-under-par.
The native of Inman, S.C. who played at Clemson from 2018-22 had rounds of 70-69-68-71 for the tournament for his 278 total. His performance tied for the lowest 72-hole score by a former Clemson golfer at the Open Championship. Lucas Glover also had a 278 score at the 2025 Open Championship at Royal Portrush last year.
Bridgeman’s -2 score vs. par was the third best score vs. par for 72 holes by a former Clemson golfer at the Open Championship. Glover was -6 for his 278 in 2025 and Ben Martin was -4 at the 2014 Open Championship (284) at Royal Liverpool.
Bridgeman was in 14th place after he made a birdie from nine yards off the green on the par three 12th hole in the final round. He played the final six holes at one-over-par to finish 28th. It was the eighth top 30 finish by a former Clemson golfer at the Open Championship. The best finish by a former Tiger is 12th by Glover at the 2011 tournament at Royal St. George’s.
The 28th place finish was Bridgeman’s third top 41 finish at a major championship this year. He is the fourth Clemson golfer to make the cut at three majors in the same year. Dilliard Pruitt (1992), Glover (2007 and 2010) and Kyle Stanley (2019) are the others to do it.
Bridgeman is the first former Clemson golfer to finish in the top 41 of three majors in the same year. Earlier he was 41st at the Masters and 39th at the US Open. For the year, Bridgeman has made the cut at 18 of 19 PGA Tour events. With just three regular season tournaments left, he has already qualified for the FedEx Cup postseason, which starts in Memphis at the FedEx St. Jude Championship August 13-16.
