CARY, N.C. – No. 6 Clemson (16-12, 8-5 ACC) fell to No. 11 North Carolina (15-10, 6-7 ACC) in a down-to-the-wire second round matchup of the ACC Tournament in Cary, N.C. Thursday afternoon.

The match opened with a tightly contested doubles point that saw two of the three matches go to tiebreakers. On court three, Matisse Farzam and Yannic Nittmann fell to Mayew and Zapp, 6-4. Henrik Bladelius and Marko Mesarovic outlasted Niels and Xu, 7-6 (2) and the doubles point would be decided on court one. On the first court, each pair broke the other in the first two games and neither pair would break for the rest of the match. The pair of Tigers (Viktor Markov and Noa Vukadin) fell in the tiebreak, 7-6 (4), and singles play started with the Tar Heels holding a 1-0 lead. 

Markov grabbed the first point on court one, 7-5, 6-2, and UNC’s Mayew responded on court three with a 7-5, 6-3 point over Farzam. The Tigers earned the next two points on courts two and six, respectively. Vukadin defeated Jones on court two, 6-4, 6-4 and Noah Lopez Cherubino defeated Kase Schinnerer, 6-3, 7-6 (7-2). Djakouris evened up the match for the Heels on court five, defeating Mesarovic 6-4, 6-3. Bladelius and Niels were the final pair, battling on court four until Niels took the point, sealing the victory for UNC, 7-6 (5), 6-4, 6-3.

  1. Jones / Wright (UNC) defeated No. 22 Markov / Vukadin (CU), 7-6 (4).
  2. Bladelius / Mesarovic (CU) defeated Niels / Xu (UNC), 7-6 (2).
  3. Mayew / Zapp (UNC) defeated Farzam / Nittmann (CU), 6-4.

  1. No. 39 Markov (CU) defeated Xu (UNC), 7-5, 6-2.
  2. Vukadin (CU) defeated Jones (UNC), 6-4, 6-4
  3. Mayew (UNC) defeated Farzam (CU), 7-5, 6-3
  4. Niels (UNC) defeated Bladelius (CU), 7-6 (5), 6-4, 6-3
  5. Djakouris (UNC) defeated Mesarovic (CU), 6-4, 6-3
  6. Lopez Cherubino (CU) defeated Schinnerer (UNC), 6-3, 7-6 (2)
