CLEMSON, S.C. - The Clemson Tigers fell to the No. RV/25 South Carolina Gamecocks 3-1 in the Tuesday night Palmetto Series finale presented by the South Carolina Education Lottery. Freshman Mac Pavese and senior Jamison Brockenbrough recorded singles, while sophomore Macey Cintron launched her fifth home run of the season for the lone run. The loss dropped Clemson to 27-17, while the Gamecocks improved to 24-20.
The Gamecocks jumped ahead early, scoring two in the top of the first. A walk, hit by pitch, and fielder’s choice set the stage for a pair of singles to score two.
Neither program produced much offensively through the next five innings. Clemson’s first chance to strike back came in the bottom of the sixth inning. Junior Kylee Johnson led off with a full-count walk, and Brockenbrough moved her to second with a single through the right side. Junior Kiley Channell executed a sac bunt to move both into scoring position, but a bouncing groundout ended the inning with South Carolina still leading, 2-0.
South Carolina added to its lead with a solo home run in the top of the seventh before the Tigers could get out of the inning. In the bottom of the seventh, Cintron got the Tigers on the board with a solo home run, but it wouldn’t prove to be enough as Clemson fell to the Gamecocks 3-1.
Junior Sierra Maness got the midweek start, pitching the full seven and striking out one. Maness took the loss to fall to 15-8 on the season.
