CLEMSON, S.C. – No. 11/11 Clemson Lacrosse (12-4, 6-3 ACC) extended its program record win streak to nine games by defeating No. 17/17 Duke (9-6, 5-4 ACC), 17-5, at Conklin Field on Saturday afternoon. Head Coach Allison Kwolek recorded her 150th career win (between Richmond and Clemson) on senior day for the Tigers.
For the Tigers, the trio of Alexa Spallina, Regan Byrne and Mikaela Mooney each scored a hat trick. The duo of Emma Penczek and Kayla MacLeod each dished out a trio of assists. Kira Balis captured seven draw controls while Natalie Shurtleff recorded five. Paris Masaracchia recorded three caused turnovers.
FIRST QUARTER | 5-0, CLEMSON
The Tigers got off to a strong start by rattling off the first five goals of the contest. Junior attack MacLeod, freshman attack Spalina, junior attack Mooney, junior attack Byrne, and sophomore attack Brooke Goldstein each scored for Clemson. Freshman Midfield Penczek and graduate midfielder Bridget Babcock each recorded an assist. In the opening frame, Clemson’s defense allowed a pair of shots by Duke.
SECOND QUARTER | 10-3, CLEMSON
The visiting Blue Devils scored their first three goals of the day in the second frame. Clemson managed to find the back of the net five additional times in the quarter to keep a seven-goal lead heading into the break. Spalina, Penczek, Byrne, junior attack MacLeod, and Mooney all scored for the Tigers.
THIRD QUARTER | 14-4, CLEMSON
In the second-to-last quarter, Clemson outscored Duke, 4-1. With goals coming from Penczek, Spallina, a man-up goal from midfield freshman Aubrie Eisfeld, and Goldstein.
FOURTH QUARTER | 17-5, CLEMSON
In the final frame of the day, Tigers outscored the Blue Devils again, 3-1. Junior midfield Shurtleff, Mooney, and junior attack Jasmine Stanton all scored for Clemson.
