CLEMSON, S.C. - The Clemson Tigers dropped the series finale, 7-3, to the No. 8/10 Florida State Seminoles on Sunday evening inside McWhorter Stadium. With the loss, the Tigers fell to 23-13 (6-6 ACC), while the Seminoles improved to 32-4 (9-0 ACC).
Junior Julia Knowler led the team with two RBIs off a two-run homer. Freshman Mac Pavese notched a hit and RBI for the Tigers, while sophomore Taylor Pipkins tallied a hit and scored the lone run for Clemson. Junior Kiley Channell rounded out the hits with one, while sophomore Macey Cintron drew three walks and scored one run.
The Seminoles opened up the scoring in the first inning, plating one runner with the bases loaded. Two innings later, Florida State added another run to the board off a home run from Isa Torres. In the bottom of the third, Pipkins and Channell each singled to left field. Pavese was next at bat, singling through the right side to score Pipkins from second.
Florida State took a 3-1 edge in the fourth, scoring a runner off of a fielder’s choice. A single to third base in the fifth plated their fourth runner of the night, making the score 4-1 heading into the sixth inning. Torres then hit her second homer of the night with two runners on base to extend FSU’s advantage to 7-1, which held for the remainder of the game.
Cintron was first at bat in the bottom of the seventh and drew a walk. Knowler followed, hammering a ball 73 miles per hour over the right field wall to decrease the Seminole’s lead. Sophomore Corri Hicks got on due to an error, but the Tigers were unable to capitalize any further, resulting in a 7-3 final score.
Junior Sierra Maness started in her 16th game of the year and pitched 5.1. She fell to 14-5 on the year. Freshman Keira Crosby threw the final 1.2 innings and struck out three Seminoles in her outing.
