NOTRE DAME, Ind. - The No. 25/RV Clemson Tigers claimed the series win with a 4-1 victory at Notre Dame on Sunday afternoon. With the win, Clemson improved to 22-10 (6-3 ACC) and won its third ACC series of the year, while Notre Dame dropped to 13-18 (3-6 ACC).
Freshman Mac Pavese recorded her team-high 15th multi-hit game with two hits. Sophomore Macey Cintron joined Pavese with a multi-hit outing, and the duo each added an RBI. Sophomore Marian Collins clocked her team-high seventh multi-RBI game, leading the Tigers with two in the series finale. In total, the Tigers outhit the Fighting Irish, 8-3.
The Tigers struck first as Clemson’s leadoff, Jamison Brockenbrough, drew a walk to open the game. After she advanced to second on a groundout by Kiley Channell, Cintron brought her home with an RBI single up the middle.
The Tigers tacked on two more runs in the third. After Channell walked, Pavese doubled to put runners on second and third with one out. Cintron drew a walk to load the bases, and Collins delivered a two-RBI single up the middle to plate both Channell and Pavese. Notre Dame got one run back in the bottom half of the inning to make it 3-1 in Clemson’s favor after three.
Clemson added an insurance run in the top of the seventh inning. Brockenbrough led off with a double down the right field line. Two batters later, Pavese brought her home with a single into right field to give the Tigers the 4-1 lead. Clemson sat Notre Dame down in order in the bottom of the seventh that included an overturned call for an out at first to secure the win.
Junior Sierra Maness improved to 13-3 with her second win against the Fighting Irish. In her complete-game performance, she struck out three batters and allowed only three hits and gave up one walk.
