CLEMSON, S.C. – No. 34 Clemson (7-10, 2-4 ACC) split Sunday’s doubleheader. The Tigers fell in the opener against No. 66 Miami (8-8, 1-5 ACC), 4-0. In the afternoon, the team bounced back with a sweep over Elon (3-8).

MIAMI

The No. 34 Clemson Tigers fell to the No. 66 Miami Hurricanes 4-0 in the first of two on Sunday.

Viktor Markov and Noa Vukadin opened doubles play with a 6-3 victory over Sadaoui and Kroslak 6-3 but the Hurricanes evened it up with a 6-4 win over Henrik Bladelius and Marko Mesarovic. In the deciding game, the pairs of Matisse Farzam and Yannic Nittmann and Miami’s Serra Sanchez and Garot broke each other’s serves in each of the first two games, trading games through to a tiebreaker. In the extra game, the Hurricanes jumped to a 4-0 lead and held on to win 7-6(4), giving Miami a 1-0 advantage.

The Hurricanes doubled their lead after the first match as No. 98 Prat defeated Vukadin, 6-3, 6-1. They would add one more as Farzam fell after a second set tiebreaker, 6-2, 7-6(2). The clinch point came in three sets. Clemson’s Markov dominated the first but could not carry the momentum into the next two, falling to Serra Sanchez, 1-6, 6-3, 6-0.

ELON

The Tigers swept the Phoenix in doubles play, finishing matches on courts one and two. On court one, Markov and Vukadin dropped the first game but won the next two and would not trail the rest of the way, eventually winning, 6-4. Bladelius and Mesarovic trailed 5-3 heading into their ninth game but rattled off four straight game victories to complete their comeback and clinch the doubles point with a 7-5 victory.

In singles play, Bladelius got the Tigers off to a strong start with a 6-3, 6-1 victory where he never trailed. Shortly after, Farzam delivered a 6-3, 6-2 victory on court two to stretch Clemson’s lead to 3-0. On court one, No. 48 Markov battled in the first set after losing the first two games. He won four straight to go up 4-2 before dropping the next two to knot the set at 4-4. Markov would finish off the set by winning the next two games before cruising to a 6-3 second set to end the day with a Tiger sweep.

  2. Bladelius / Mesarovic (CU) defeated Pilet / Fisk (ELON), 7-5.

  6. Lopez Cherubino (CU) led Roca (ELON), 7-5, 5-1, ABD.

 

UP NEXT

Clemson heads to Tobacco Road next weekend for matchups against North Carolina and No. 49 Duke. The Tigers will clash with the Tar Heels on Friday at 5 p.m. in Chapel Hill and will head down the road to face the Blue Devils on Sunday at noon.
