CLEMSON, S.C. - No. 18 Clemson Women’s Tennis (13-4, 3-2 ACC) dropped a hard-fought match to No. 21 Virginia (10-4, 3-0 ACC) 4-2 on Friday night.

In doubles play, the pair of Sophomore Sophie Clayton and Artemis Aslanisvili fell to No. 81 Katie Rolls and Isabelle Lacy 6-2 on court three. Over on court two, Sophomore Talia Neilson-Gatenby and Senior Romana Cisovska secured the first doubles win of the day with a 6-3 win over No. 27 Annabelle Xu and Martina Genis Salas. The No. 35 pair of Senior Jade Groen and Freshman Rinon Okuwaki were battling with the No. 3 ranked pair of Melodie Collard and Vivian Yang on court one. The match was tight until the end, with neither doubles pair going up more than a point on the other. Ultimately in a tie breaker set Groen and Okuwaki fell 6-7 (5).

In singles, No. 70 Vivian Yang defeated Groen 6-2, 6-3 on court one to bring the match to 2-0. Okuwaki extended her undefeated streak to 16 matches with a 6-2, 6-1 win over No. 25 Annabelle Xu on court two. Neilson-Gatenby fell to No. 96 Martina Genis Salas 2-6, 3-6 on court four. On court five, Aslanisvili added the Tigers’ second singles point of the match with a 6-2, 7-5 win over Katie Rolls. Junior Ria Bhakta took her first set 6-3 over Melodie Collard but then fell 3-6 in set two to head into a third set. In their third set, Bhakta ultimately fell 1-6 to Collard to take the match 4-2 over the Tigers. At the time of the clinch, Cisovska led No. 82 Isabelle Lacy 6-2, 3-6, 5-2.

UP NEXT: Clemson is back at Duckworth Family Tennis Facility Saturday, March 14 to face off with Virginia Tech at 12 p.m.
