Looking to extend its win streak to four, the Clemson women’s soccer team faces off with the second-ranked Florida State Seminoles on the road in the regular-season finale. With their last win securing win No. 99 for Head Coach Eddie Radwanski, Associate Head Coach Jeff Robbins, and Assistant Coach Siri Mullinix – the trio have their sights on their 100th win at Clemson while in their 10th season at the helm of the program.
In the all-time series, Florida State holds the advantage with an 18-8-4 mark, while similarly holding a 9-3-1 record when the match is played in Tallahassee. The last Clemson win against the Seminoles and the last win for the Tigers in Florida came in 2018 with a 1-0 score courtesy of a Miranda Weslake header from inside of the box.
In Thursday’s match against Pitt, the Tigers were fueled to an overtime victory after freshman Megan Bornkamp tallied the equalizing goal and the golden goal to secure Clemson’s sixth victory of the year and fifth win within conference play.
Three of the freshman’s five goals in 2020 have come in the last two games. However, Thursday’s match against Pitt marked the first time that Bornkamp has taken to the field as a center-back despite her usual placement falling within the midfield.
Currently, Bornkamp leads the team for total shots with 23, goals with five, and points with 11. Additionally, the young star has notched the game-winning goals in two matches which ties her with Caroline Conti and Mariana Speckmaier for the team lead.
Match Information
Clemson and Florida State met twice in 2019, once in the regular season hosted at Historic Riggs Field and once on the road at the Seminole Soccer Complex during the ACC Quarterfinals. Both matches were decided by 2-1 scores with the Seminoles claiming the victory in both.
How It Was Decided
Maliah Morris netted the lone goal in the regular season against Florida State while Lauren Bruns tallied her first collegiate goal against the nationally-ranked opponent during the ACC Tournament. Florida State notched scoring from Yujie Zhao, Deyna Castellanos (x2), and Jaelin Howell during the 2019 season. Clemson held national rankings of 9 and 22, respectively when facing the Seminoles in 2019.
