Carrying a two-game win streak after a pair of victories over Wake Forest and Notre Dame, the third-ranked Clemson team (5-2-0, 4-2-0) looks to add on to the recent success at home against Pitt (9-3-0, 3-3-0) in its final home match of the 2020 fall season.
Coming into the match, the Tigers have held a 3-0 record when playing at Historic Riggs Field in 2020 and have yet to concede a goal when playing at home this season. During the three matches held in Clemson, S.C. (Virginia Tech, Virginia, & Wake Forest), the Tigers have outscored opponents 8-0 with 16 saves being recorded on their behalf.
When facing the Panthers, Clemson holds a 5-0-0 record in the all-time series with a 3-0-0 record when the Tigers hold the home-field advantage. However, five of Pitt’s nine wins this season have come on the road, the most in single-season in program history.
Of Note
The match will mark Clemson’s annual Pink Day as the Tigers will take to the field with pink socks in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month.
The Tigers will be celebrating more than just gameday when they take the field against Pitt as sophomore defender Abby Hanks will be celebrating her birthday. The Ellicott City, Md. native has seen action in four of Clemson’s seven games on the backline throughout the fall season.
Match Information
Clemson and Pitt met just last season at Historic Riggs Field as the Tigers took part in their annual Senior Day game.
How It Was Decided
Senior Julie Mackin netted two goals in the match (26′, 58′) but with Pitt finding the equalizing goals, forced overtime. In the 92nd minute, then-freshman Hal Hershfelt was able to find the nearside post and send a shot past the Panthers’ goalkeeper. In 2019, every single goal scored by Hal Hershfelt came in game-winning fashion. The Pathers saw goals from Vildan Kardesler (64′) and Krystyna Rytel (68′).
• In their most recent bout of action, the Tigers claimed their 300th overall win as a program which has now reached the midway point of its 27th year.
• In addition to overall program wins, Clemson sits three wins within conference play to reach the “100 mark” for ACC victories.
• Coming into the match against Pitt, Head Coach Eddie Radwanski along with Associate Head Coach Jeff Robbins and Assistant Coach Siri Mullinix sit just two wins away from 100 career wins leading the Clemson squad. The three have coached together dating back to stints at UNC Greensboro where Radwanski was the head coach from 2001-10.
