The weekend will see some of the nation’s best programs convene in Clemson, with a total of 16 nationally ranked teams, evenly split between eight men’s and eight women’s squads, set to compete at the meet. Clemson’s program features 10 individuals and two relays who are nationally ranked amongst the top-30 across 10 different events. Marcus Parker and Devon Brooks are the highest-ranked Tigers, with the two ranked sixth in the men’s 200 meters and 60 meters, respectively.
“Our indoor track over the past three to four years has proven to be the best track out there,” said Elliott. “With 16 ranked teams, I think we can safely say this is a pre nationals competition. It gives us a good idea of what a national championship meet can look like for our program on the track, in the field and in the ring.”
Competition during the indoor campaign is focused on having teams represented by individuals and relay squads at the Indoor National Championships, set to be held this year in Albuquerque, N.M., on March 13-14. Individual athletes qualify for the competition by being ranked within the top-16 of their respective events. Relay squads qualify for the competition by having their top performance throughout the season be ranked within the top-12 of the national rankings.
A trio of field events and the women’s 60 meter hurdle prelims will start the competition on Friday at noon. Field events will start the final day of competition on Saturday, as the women’s shot put, women’s high jump, men’s triple jump and men’s pole vault will all begin at 11 a.m.
Admission to the meet this weekend is free for both days. All applicable parking and traffic information can be found here.
