CLEMSON, S.C. – The Clemson women’s soccer team hosts 11th-ranked Boston College on Sunday, Sept. 30 at 1 p.m. in its annual “Pink Game,” in which the program will raise awareness of breast cancer.

Clemson Notes:

  • Clemson faced two top five teams last week in No. 4 Virginia and No. 5 North Carolina and went 1-1, upsetting the Cavaliers on Thursday, Sept. 20, 1-0 in double overtime while falling 1-0 to the Tar Heels on Sunday, Sept. 23.
  • The win over UVA was Clemson’s first upset over a top-five team in just over three years, as the Tigers defeated No. 5 Notre Dame on Sept. 19, 2015.
  • Sophomore forward Mariana Speckmaier picked up her third game-winning goal as she scored in the 105th minute on a corner kick sent into the box by senior defender Sam Staab.
  • Staab’s assist on the game-winning goal was her fifth of the season, and the 27thof her Clemson career. She is currently tied for fifth, with All-American Deliah Arrington, in the Clemson record books for career assists.
  • The Tigers kept Virginia off the scoreboard for the first time during the 2018 campaign. Virginia was averaging 3.14 goals per game entering the match. On Sunday, Sept. 23 the Clemson defense held the Tar Heels to 11 shots and just three on goal, with the Heels averaging 19.2 shots and 8.5 shots on goal per match in their first 10 contests.
  • Junior goalkeeper Sandy MacIver picked up her fourth clean sheet of the season against UVA, earning her 10th solo shutout at Clemson. The 10 career solo shutouts ranks fifth in program history.
  • The Winsford, England native missed the first four matches of the season as she was in France, where she represented England’s women’s national team and earned a bronze medal at the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.
  • Speckmaier earned ACC Co-Offensive Player of the Week for her efforts in helping Clemson upset the undefeated Cavaliers.
  • The Miami, Fla. native leads the team with six goals on the season while also leading the team in scoring with 13 points, on six goals and one assist.
  • Staab was the only collegiate player called up to the U.S. U23 Women’s National Team for the 2018 Nordic Tournament that took place from Aug. 29-Sept. 3. The San Diego, Calif. native scored the team’s game-winning goal in the 1-0 win over Norway to secure the USA’s first-place finish.

Boston College Notes:

  • The No. 11 Eagles enter the match at 10-1-0 as they earned their first loss of the 2018 season on Thursday, Sept. 27 to Wake Forest 2-1 in overtime.
  • Before Thursday’s match against the Demon Deacons, Boston College was on a 10-match winning streak that included wins over two ranked opponents, No. 21 Texas Tech and No. 7 Florida State.
  • Leading the offense for the Eagles is sophomore forward Sam Coffey. She has netted five goals while adding 10 assists. Coffey leads nation in assists (10) while leading the conference in points (20) and assists.
  • Junior forward Jenna Bike played a pivotal role in BC’s 2-1 victory over No. 7 Florida State on Sunday, Sept. 23 as she netted the game-winning goal for her first goal of the 2018 campaign. She also had a hand in the first goal as she was taken down in the box to set up a PK that Gaby Carreiro converted earning her ACC Co-Offensive Player of the Week this week.
  • Goalkeeper Alexis Bryant nabbed ACC Defensive Player of the Week honors this week. The redshirt senior had nine saves, including a season high six saves in the upset win over the Seminoles, coming up with a diving save to keep FSU off the board in the 53rd
  • Bryant 10-1-0 with six shutouts in her 11 starts in net for BC this season, allowing six goals while picking up 29 saves in her 952 minutes. She has a goals against average of .567 and a save percentage of .829.

Series Notes:

  • Clemson has a 4-7-1 record in the series against Boston College, which dates back to 2005, the year the Eagles joined the Atlantic Coast Conference.
  • The last time the two teams met at Historic Riggs Field was on Oct. 20, 2016, and No. 17 Clemson defeated Boston College, 2-1.
