EUGENE, Ore. – The Clemson women’s soccer team came up just short in a road match against Oregon on Sunday night, as the Ducks held onto a 1-0 lead to take the win at Pape’ Field. With the loss, the Tigers are now 1-1 on the young season, while Oregon improves to 2-0.

HOW IT WAS DECIDED
The lone goal of the game came in the 67th minute of the match, when the Ducks’ Marissa Everett got behind the Clemson defense and carried the ball into the box, beating the Tigers’ sophomore keeper Maddie Weber to her left.

OF NOTE

  • Clemson dominated most of the offensive statistical categories, outshooting the Ducks 10-4, and bettering them in corner kicks 8-3.
  •  Sophomore Mariana Speckmaier and senior Sam Staab combined for seven of the Tigers’ 10 shots.
  • The Tigers earned an impressive eight corner kicks against Oregon. Staab handled four, as did junior Dani Antieau.

Clemson next travels to Columbia, S.C. to face in-state rival, No. 5 South Carolina. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 23. The Tigers are set to host Indiana on Sunday, Aug. 26 for their 2018 regular season home opener at Historic Riggs Field.

“Our girls gave a good effort tonight,” said Head Coach Eddie Radwanski. “We needed to put one of our chances away in the first half; we can’t just leave those chances out there. When you don’t take advantage of your chances, you leave the door open. Then, we made a mistake for which we were punished. We will learn from it though, and will improve and get on to the next game. It is a long season and we are going to take it one game at a time.”
