- Clemson (12-3-5) looks to bounce back in the second round of the NCAA Tournament after falling 3-1 to Wake Forest in the ACC Championship last Sunday.
- The Tigers earned the No. 3 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament and is guaranteed home field advantage until the College Cup.
- This year marks the 4th straight bid for Clemson and the 29th all-time appearance in program history, and the Tigers have a 49-26-5 record in the national tournament all-time.
- Clemson went 8-3-5 this season against teams that earned bids to the NCAA Tournament.
- An NCAA-record nine Atlantic Coast Conference teams earned a bid to the 2016 NCAA Division I Men’s Soccer Championship.
- Sophomore goalkeeper Ximo Miralles currently has ten solo shutouts this season which is the most since 1998 when Josh Campbell had 12.
- The Clemson defense that has outscored opponents 27-14 this season is ranked 8th in the NCAA with a (0.55) shutout percentage.
- Junior Diego Campos leads the team with six goals and 15 points, and junior Oliver Shannon leads the team with four assists.
- The Tigers fell one spot in the RPI to No. 2 this week behind Maryland.
- Clemson is ranked No. 3 in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Poll, No. 4 by Top Drawer Soccer, and No. 6 by Soccer America.
South Carolina Notes:
- The South Carolina Gamecocks (11-7-1) advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament after defeating Mercer 1-0 on Thursday afternoon in Columbia.
- South Carolina improved to 17-21-2 all-time in the NCAA Tournament, and senior Kevin Walker scored his first career NCAA Tournament goal.
- The Gamecocks fell in the first round of the C-USA Tournament to Old Dominion, 1-0.
- The most significant win of the season came on Nov. 4, defeating then ranked No. 12 Kentucky, 2-1.
- Senior midfielder Danny Deakin leads the team with 20 points and six assists.
- Sophomore forward Bjorn Gudjonnson leads the way for the Gamecocks scoring eight goals.
Series Notes:
- Clemson’s all-time record against South Carolina is 26-17-1.
- The Tigers traveled to Columbia earlier this season and took down the Gamecocks 2-1 in the season opener for both sides.
- The two teams last met in the NCAA Tournament in 1997 in the Sweet 16 where Clemson came out on top in a 1-0 overtime victory.
