CLEMSON, S.C. – The 14th-ranked Clemson women’s tennis team suffered its first conference loss on Sunday, falling 7-0 to No. 20 Miami in Coral Gables, Fla. With the loss, the Tigers fall to 7-5 overall and 3-1 in the ACC, while the Hurricanes improve to 6-2 (2-0 ACC).

In doubles action, the Miami duo of Albuquerque and Riobueno, ranked 17th nationally, got out to a fast start at No. 2, defeating Clemson’s Romy Koelzer and Tristen Dewar 8-1. Zhang and Lohan then defeated Joana Eidukonyte and Daniela Ruiz on court three by a score of 8-4 to clinch the doubles point for the Hurricanes. The loss in doubles was just the second of the season for Clemson, and the first in over a month of play.

Miami’s momentum continued in singles play as Riobueno clinched the second point for the Hurricanes with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Rompies at No. 4. Though both matches were extremely close, No. 119 Dewar fell 4-6, 4-6 at No. 5 and minutes later No. 58 Koelzer fell 4-6, 5-7 at No. 2 to secure a win for the Hurricanes. Daniela Ruiz fell at No. 6 before No. 10 Stephanie Wagner defeated No. 20 Eidukonyte, the reigning ACC player of the week, 4-6, 6-4, 10-4 at No. 1. In another tight match, No. 82 Gumulya was defeated 3-6, 6-2, 4-6 at No. 3.

After two straight conference road matches, the Tigers return home Saturday, March 7 to take on Louisville at 3:30 p.m.
