GREENSBORO, NC – The Atlantic Coast Conference released its 2010 tennis tournament brackets, which included No. 8 Clemson as the third seed. By virtue of a top-four league finish, the Tigers earned a first-round bye, and will await the winner of six-seed Virginia and 11-seed Boston College
Clemson will play its first match on Friday at 3:00 pm at the Cary Tennis Complex in Cary, NC. Virginia and BC play Thursday at 3:00 pm.
North Carolina (24-3, 11-0 ACC) and Miami (17-4, 10-1 ACC), the only two teams to defeat Clemson in league play, earned the top two seeds. Defending NCAA Champion Duke (19-6, 7-4 ACC) was the fourth team to earn a bye.
Clemson ended its regular season on Sunday with a 4-3 win at #31 Virginia. The Tigers clawed to a 21-4 overall mark this season and a 9-2 record in conference.
The Tigers have won eight ACC Tournament Championships, second among all league schools. The program surpassed the 600-win plateau this past weekend as well.
With the third seed, the Tigers have received a top-four selection in each of the past eight ACC tournaments. Clemson has earned a three seed in four previous tournaments, including 2009. The Tigers won the 1987 league championship from the three slot and advanced to the semifinals in 2000 and 2005.
