CLEMSON, SC – The Clemson men’s tennis team defeated West Virginia (4-0) and Tennessee Tech (6-0) on the second day of the Clemson Spring Classic at the Hoke Sloan Tennis Center in Clemson, SC. The Tigers improve to 9-4 overall on the season.
In singles action against West Virginia, Nathan Thompson posted a victory (6-1, 6-1) over Eric Kochanski at number one singles. At flight four singles, Micah Thompson downed JR Randall by a score of 6-4, 6-4. Clemson’s Damiisa Robinson swept West Virginia’s Julian Mesa 6-0, 6-0 at number five singles.
In doubles play, the Tigers’ duo of Nathan Thompson and Jarmaine Jenkins defeated Kochanski and Tony Epuey 8-1 at number one doubles. At number two doubles, Sander Koning and Brett Twente won an 8-4 decision over Randall and Kyle Markham at flight three doubles.
In singles action against Tennessee Tech, Nathan Thompson was victorious at number one singles over Gernot Fischer by a score of 6-1, 6-4. Jenkins won at three singles, downing Razvan Ilie, 6-3, 6-1. At number four singles, Micah Thompson won a 2-6, 6-2, 7-6 (10-8) decision over Will Chappell. Robinson defeated Roy Cuesta at number five singles, 6-0, 6-1. At flight six singles, Boetsch downed Mik Panzeri by a score of 6-1, 6-0.
In doubles play against the Golden Eagles, Nathan Thompson and Jenkins defeated Fischer and Luis Aguerrevere at number one doubles, 9-7 (7-2). The Tigers’ Boetsch and Koning posted an 8-3 win over Ilie and Chappell at number two doubles. At flight three doubles, Robinson and Twente won an 8-2 decision over Cuesta and Panzeri.
The Tigers will return to the court tomorrow at 12:00 p.m. against St. John’s.
