EL PASO, Tex. – Clemson golfers John Engler and Jonathan Byrd both finished in the top 10 of the Savane College All-America Tournament in El Paso, TX on Tuesday. The two-day, 54-hole event featured 24 of the top college players in the nation.
Engler, the leader after 36 holes, finished with a 54-hole score of 209 on the par 71, 6781-yard El Paso Country Club Course. The junior from Augusta, GA had rounds of 69-66-74 for his 209 total. He finished in a tie for third with David Gossett of Texas, the reigning US Amateur Champion.
Byrd, a senior from Columbia, SC, finished in a tie for 10th with a 221 score, eight over par. Byrd had rounds of 76-72-73 and was tied with Camilo Benedetti of Florida and Kyle Thompson of South Carolina.
Matt Kuchar of Georgia Tech won the event with a 208 score, five-under-par. He won the event in a playoff with Andy Miller of Brigham Young, son of former US Open Champion Johnny Miller.
