Clemson started out the first set strong as the Tigers got off to an early 10-5 lead, but the Wolfpack battled back to even the set, 17-17, midway through the first. NC State went on to register the final three points of the set on a kill and a pair of Tiger errors before winning set No. 1, 25-20.
Both teams continued to battle back and forth in the start of the first set, but a 5-0 run for the Tigers gave them an early 8-6 lead. NC State’s efficient hitting percentage of .486 along with 20 kills gave them the edge as the Wolfpack took the game No. 2, 25-20, heading into the break.
Both teams were neck and neck to start the third, but NC State tallied four unanswered points in the middle of the set and held a 15-12 lead at the final media timeout. Clemson tied the set 22-22 on a Wolfpack setting error before seizing the lead on an NC State attack error the very next play. Then, the Tigers appeared to secure a 24-22 lead, but an NC State successful challenge reversed the score and tied the set once again, 23-23. The Wolfpack went on to take the next two points to claim the set, 25-23, and match.
Up next, Clemson (10-8, 4-7 ACC) returns to action on Saturday continuing ACC play in Reynolds Coliseum. The Tigers are scheduled to take on Boston College (1-9, 0-9 ACC) at 3 p.m. The match is set to air on ACCNX.
