CLEMSON, S.C. – Clemson Men’s Tennis fell to USF, 4-3, on Saturday afternoon at the Duckworth Family Tennis Complex. The Tigers fell to 2-1 on the season, while the Bulls evened their record at 1-1. The Tigers’ singles lineup, featuring four freshmen, one sophomore and one junior fought back, but weren’t able to complete the comeback against the USF lineup consisting of all juniors and seniors.
In doubles, Spencer Whitaker and Teodor Giusca fought back to take their match on court three, 7-5. USF powered back on courts one and two, with each of their ranked duos taking 7-5 decisions over the Tigers with breaks in the 12th game.
Clemson got three-set singles wins from sophomore Teodor Giusca on court two and freshman Ryuhei Azuma on court four to take a 2-1 lead in the match. USF responded with a 6-4, 7-5 win on court six and a 7-5, 7-6 (2) win on court one to take a 3-2 lead.
USF clinched the match on court three, with Pierre Luquet taking down Jorge Plans Gonzalez, 6-2, 2-6, 6-1. Freshman Spencer Whitaker took the final result of the afternoon in three sets, 6-4, 6-7(2), 6-2 to set the final margin.
Clemson takes on Old Dominion on Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Duckworth Family Tennis Complex.
