Morris, Ward Pace Tigers at ACC’s

Men’s Results – 8k || Women’s Results – 6k

Blacksburg, Va. – Logan Morris and John Ward led the way for the women’s and men’s teams, respectively, at the ACC Championships earlier today. Morris was the first woman to cross the line for the Tigers, placing 24th overall with a time of 21:33.1. Ward broke the 26-minute barrier for the third time this season in the 8k run, crossing the line today with a time of 25:49.2. Five Clemson runners competed at the ACC Cross Country Championships for the first time in their careers.

The Tigers’ women’s team continued to showcase strong pack running, having their second through fifth runners separated by only 13.2 seconds at the end of the race. The men’s team took to the course as one of the youngest squads in the field, with no seniors on the starting line. All six runners who competed for the men are slated to return to the squad next year. Both squads showcased savvy race tactics, steadily improving their positioning throughout the race. The 16 runners for Clemson combined to improve 200 places throughout their respective races.

The Tigers now look ahead to the Southeast Regionals held in Earlysville, Va. on Nov. 15th. The regional competition will be the first time the men’s team will race at the 10k distance this season, while the women will continue to compete at the 6k distance. By competing at the regional meet, Clemson will have an opportunity to directly qualify for the NCAA Championships.
