Notre Dame, Ind. – Clemson sophomore Logan Morris achieved her personal best on the 5K course Friday at Notre Dame’s Joe Piane Invitational after crossing the finish line in 16:59.4 to place eighth overall out of 157 runners Friday at the Burke Golf Course in Notre Dame, Indiana. Additionally, nine of the 14 women’s entries achieved their personal bests, as did six of the eight men’s competitors on men’s five-mile course.
The women’s team (271 points) finished in 10th place out of 19 teams, while the Tiger men (151 points) placed seventh out of 14 teams.
Behind Morris for Clemson was senior Elizabeth Dawson, who also PR’d with a time of 17:47.7 to place 48th overall. Rounding out the women’s scoring pack was Erin McLaughlin (17:58.7) in 64th, Liz Sauder (18:01.94) in 67th and Jenna Gearing (18:15.2) in 84th, all of whom achieved career bests.
On the men’s side, sophomore Colt Griffith led the Tigers for the third consecutive meet, placing 12th overall in his first-ever five-mile race. Griffith completed his race in 25:05.4. Senior Jacob Slann was the second Clemson runner to cross the finish line with a time of 25:30.6, good for 25th and his PR on his second-ever five-mile race. Slann ran his first five-mile race at the Joe Piane Invitational in 2015. Sophomore John Ward (25:25.6) placed 29th overall just behind Slann. Freshman Michael Smith (25:41.3) and senior Jackson Goodwin (25:43.9) rounded out the men’s scoring pack in 42nd and 43rd, respectively.
Up next, the Tigers head to the Pre-Nationals meet in Madison, Wisconsin Saturday, Oct. 13.
