Winston-Salem, N.C. — Mackenzy Middlebrooks picked up a victory in the singles main draw consolation quarterfinal on Saturday to advance to the semifinal round. The senior battled through a tough three-set match against South Carolina’s Ana Luiza Cruz, taking a 1-0 advantage after winning the first set 7-5 (2). Following a second-set loss, Middlebrooks persevered to earn the deciding set 10/6. Middlebrooks will face Summer Dvorak of Duke on Sunday at 9 a.m.
In addition, Eleni Louka and Ali DeSpain also competed in the singles main draw quarterfinals on Saturday. Both freshman dropped their respective decisions with Louka falling to Rocio Safont of Charlotte, 6-4, 6-1, and DeSpain narrowly losing to Summer Dvorak 6-2, 5-7, 10/7.
