Men’s Tennis Team Receives NCAA Bid

CLEMSON, S.C. — The Clemson men’s tennis team received a bid Wednesday to play in the 1999 NCAA Tournament.

The Tigers will play host to the first two rounds on May 15-16, at theHoke Sloan Tennis Center in Clemson, SC. Clemson will face William & Mary while Duke and Charleston Southern will meet in the other match on May 15 in first round action. The two winners will meet on May 16 in the second round at Clemson.

The Clemson men’s tennis team will be making its 18th appearance in the tournament in the last 21 years. The NCAA men’s tennis tournament went to a team format in 1977, in addition to the individual singles and doubles championships. In the previous 17 appearances, Clemson has reached the final sixteen 11 times and the final eight six times.

Clemson is one of 16 sites conducting first and second round action. The winner at each 16 sites advances to the University of Georgia on May 22-25.

The Tigers have a 20-11 record overall this season and are ranked 29th nationally by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. The Tigers’ doubles team of Pablo Bellagamba and Josh Goffi are ranked 26th nationally.
