Men’s Soccer Blanks South Carolina

October 11, 1998

COLUMBIA, S.C. – John Wilson and Mark Lisi both scored goals in the fourth-ranked Clemson 2-0 win over South Carolina in a men’s intercollgiate soccer match at Columbia, S.C. Sunday afternoon.

Jeremey Iwaszkowiec also had two assists on the match for the Tigers.

With the win, Clemson improves its record to 11-2 overall, while South Carolina falls to 8-3 this season. Clemson is ranked fourth in the Soccer America poll, and ninth in the NSCAA listing. South Carolina is ninth in the Soccer America poll and 16th in the NSCAA listing.

John Wilson scored his goal early in the match at the 1:58 mark. Jeremey Iwaszkowiec’s shot was defleated by South Carolina’s goalkeeper Henry Ring. The deflected shot went up into the air and Wilson knocked the ball into the upper left corner corner of the goal. This was Wilson’s fourth goal of the year.

Mark Lisi scored at the 69:19 mark. Pablo Webster threw the ball into the box. Jeremey Iwaskowseic touched the ball to Lisi who knocked the ball in from six yards out. This was Lisi’s seventh goal of the season.

Clemson will play at Winthrop Wednesday night in the Tigers’ next action.

Clemson has won the last four matches over the Gamecocks since the 1996 season. The Tigers are also 4-2 when playing on October 11 over the years, which also includes three victories over the Gamecocks.

The Tigers’ Head Coach Trevor Adair is also 4-1 vs. South Carolina.
