Meekins, Byrd To Have Surgery This Week

Tommy Bowden Chat Room

April 3, 2001

Clemson, SC – Two players listed as starters on the Clemson spring depth chart will have surgery this week. First-team free safety Eric Meekins and starting offensive tackle Gary Byrd both will have surgery for similar problems.

Meekins suffered a non-displaced crack in a bone in one of his knees during last Saturday’s scrimmage. He will have arthroscopic surgery on Friday. He will miss the spring game, but should return to full health in six weeks.

Byrd suffered a dislocated kneecap on March 28 and has been on the sidelines since. He will have arthroscopic surgery on Wednesday and also should be out of action for six weeks. Both players should be in good health for the beginning of fall practice August 10th.

Offensive guard Nick Black is questionable for the spring game due to a dislocated kneecap suffered in the first Clemson scrimmage prior to spring break.
