Clemson travels to #2 Pittsburgh and Virginia

Clemson, S.C ā€“ CLEMSON, S.C ā€“ The Clemson Volleyball team travels to Pittsburgh, Pa. and Charlottesville, Va. to start their second road trip of ACC play for the 2021 season. Fridayā€™s match-up against #2 Pittsburgh is set for 5 p.m. at Fitzgerald Fieldhouse and will stream on ACCNX. The Tigers will finish up their road trip on Sunday against Virginia at Memorial Gym with a 1 p.m. scheduled start. This match will be streamed on ACCNX.

The Tigers and Panthers have met a total of 10 times previously with the Panthers winning the past nine matches, most recently in 2021 when Pittsburgh secured a 3-0 victory. #2 Pittsburgh comes into the match 14-0, following two sweeps against Duke and Virginia. Leading the team is Kayla Lund, the two-time ACC Volleyball Player of the Year, with 156 kills for the season on .267 hitting and has over 1,495 career kills. Ā Chinaza Ndee adds 3.14 kills per set for the Panthers.

The Cavaliers are coming into the contest 8-6 with two recent losses from Pittsburgh and Duke. Virginia leads the series 49-23, but Clemson holds the last victory between the two programs in 2019 when the Tigers secured a 3-0 win. Middle blocker Alana Walker has led UVAā€™s defensive effort with a team-best 87 total blocks on the season, good for 1.74 per set. Walker is currently third in the nation in blocks per set and leads the ACC in this category.

Clemson enters the competition with a 10-5 overall record after two recent loses against #3 Louisville and Notre Dame. Graduate transfer Kaylee Martin continues to set the offensive tone with a team-high 3.25 kills per set and 166 kills, followed by sophomore Camryn Hannahā€™s 3.12 kills per set. While on the defensive end, freshman Devan Taylor maintains her dominance on the court by securing 4.14 digs per set on 215 digs this season. Taylor ranks 19th among NCAA freshmen in Digs per set and holds the 4th spots in the ACC. Ā The Tigersā€™ offense features three players with 100-plus kills on the season in Martin, Hannah, and Cate Long.
