EUGENE, Ore. – In the Clemson men kick-started the 2024 NCAA Outdoor Championships with two Tigers being tabbed NCAA All-Americans and Tarees Rhoden securing a place in the 800 meter finals.
Event-By-Event Breakdown:
400 meters (Semifinals), D’Andre Anderson: 47.10, 22nd place
800 meters (Semifinals), Tarees Rhoden: 1:46.18, 2nd place (Q)
Javelin (Finals): Ethan Cocco: 69.39m, 15th place (Second Team All-American)
Shot Put (Finals): Courtney Lawrence: 19.92m (PB), 5th place (First Team All-American)
With a massive, personal best throw of 19.92m in the men’s shot put, Courtney Lawrence earned a fifth-place overall finish to secure a place on the podium and be crowned a First Team All-American. The performance was second-best in Clemson history as Lawrence improves the No. 2 spot on the all-time list.
In the men’s javelin, Ethan Cocco threw 69.39m to secure a 15th place overall finish and be named a Second Team All-American.
Rhoden, who has impressed all season long in the 800 meters, ran 1:46.18 to earn second-place overall in the semifinals and secure his place in Friday’s finals of the 800 meters. Rhoden will be the sole Tiger competing on Friday with his event set to start at 7:14 p.m. PT.
The Clemson women are set to compete tomorrow, June 6 with Marie Forbes starting the Tigers off in the women’s hammer throw which is slated for 3 p.m. PT.
