Lady Tiger Rally Falls Short Against Ole Miss

The Clemson Lady Tigers were defeated by Mississippi 70-66 in their second home game of the season on Monday night in Littlejohn Coliseum. Ashley Johnson led Ole Miss in scoring with 21 points. The Lady Tigers gave up 27 points in turnovers as they dropped their record to 0-4, Misssissippi notched its second win of the season.

The Lady Tigers were led in scoring by Maxienne White who recorded a double-double as she scored a career high 22 points and 10 rebounds. After being held to just two points in the first half, White finished strong in the second, shooting 81 percent from the field. White is the first Lady Tiger to score 22 or more points in a game since Tasha Phillips who had 22 against South Carolina in 2004.

Julie Talley joined White in double figures, her second straight game with 10 or more points. Talley scored 18 total points, 15 from behind the 3-point line.

Ole Miss’ Armintie Price recorded her second double-double of the season as she scored 19 points and 11 rebounds. Danetra Forrest was the third Rebel to score double figures against the Lady Tigers, scoring 12 points.

The Lady Tigers went into halftime down by only 6 points despite shooting just 25 percent in the first half. Clemson returned in the second half and cut the Ole Miss lead to just three points by shooting 46.9 percent. The Lady Tigers rallied to close the deficit to 69-66 with 10 seconds left, but Ashley Awkward hit a free throw and Talley missed a three pointer in the closing seconds to make the final margin 70-66.

The Lady Tigers travel to the Lady tiger Classic in Memphis, TN after Thanksgiving on November 25 as they take on Belmont.
