CLEMSON, S.C. — Senior transfer Calahan Keever recorded his second top 10 finish of the year with a 216 score at the Thomas Sharkey Invitational at the Georgia Southern University Golf Course in Statesboro, Ga. The field played 36 holes on Feb. 3 and 18 holes on Sunday, Feb. 4.
Keever was one of four Tigers playing in the individual tournament that featured 79 players from around the South. Will Baker, Sean Curran and Justin Burroughs also were in the field.
Keever made an amazing recovery to finish in the top 10, as he shot an 81 in the first round on Saturday, then shot a 65 in the Saturday afternoon round. The 16-stroke improvement from one round to the next was the greatest for a Clemson golfer since September 27-28, 1985 when Robert McCardle made a 17-shot improvement from round one to round two at the Grandfather Mountain Intercollegiate in Boone, NC.
Keever shot a final round 70 on Sunday to finish with an even-par 216 for the 54 holes. For the tournament the Greenville, SC native and Eastside High School graduate had 13 birdies and an eagle. His 4.42 stroke average on par five holes was among the best in the field.
Will Baker was Clemson’s second best player in the tournament with a 36th place finish thanks to a 226 total. He ranked second in the field in par three scoring with a 2.92 figure. His second round 70 on the par 72 course was the second best round for a Tiger.
Sean Curran, a junior from New Lenox, Illinois, finished 40th with a score of 227 after rounds of 76-74-77. Justin Burroughs finished 56th with a 230 score. He had five birdies and an eagle and had a 4.58 scoring average on par five holes.
