ACC Release
GREENSBORO, N.C. — After running the third-fastest time in Clemson history for the men’s 800 meters at the Miramar Invitational on Saturday, April 10, the Atlantic Coast Conference announced today that Kameron Jones has been named the ACC Men’s Track Performer of the Week. Jones, a native of San Diego, Calif., earns his first weekly conference honor following today’s announcement.
At the Miramar Invitational, Jones produced an excellent showing of 1:47.33 in men’s half-mile, crossing the line in second overall and just four-hundredths of a second behind Atlanta Track Club’s Abe Alvarado. Alvarado and Jones pulled away from the field during the race’s final stretch, crossing the line nearly a full second ahead of Saturday’s third-place finisher. As the lone collegiate athlete in the field, Jones beat notable names such as Andres Arroyo (1:50.21) and Matthew Centrowitz (1:50.97). Jones entered the weekend with the program’s No. 4 all-time mark in the event after running 1:47.49 at the FSU Relays on March 26.
Jones becomes the fourth member of the program to garner the conference’s track performer of the week honor in 2021 and is Clemson’s first honoree during the outdoor season.
