CLEMSON, S.C. – After impressing at the USC Upstate Eye Opener, freshman Silvia Jelelgo has been named both the ACC Freshman and Performer of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Tuesday.
In Clemson’s season opener and her first cross country race for the Tigers, Jelelgo excelled as she tabbed a first-place finish in the women’s 5K. Crossing the line first, Jelelgo finished the race with a time of 16:38.90.
The award marks Jelelgo’s first weekly honor.
With help from Jelelgo, the Clemson women finished first overall in the 5K as the Tigers also had individuals earn second and third place behind the freshman.
Up next, Jelelgo and the rest of the Tigers will head to Cary, N.C. to compete in the Adidas XC Challenge on Friday, September 20.
