Howard Tops Clemson, 3-1

STATE COLLEGE, PA. – 2015 NCAA Tournament participant, Howard advances to 9-3 in its victory over Clemson (4-6) to open the Penn State Tournament. Leah Perri, Annie Carter and Megan McGinley led the offensive effort in the 3-1 (16-25, 26-24, 17-25, 20-25) loss to the Bison.

Perri dropped 17 kills and hit .250 against the Bison to register her 10th match with 10 kills or more in as many matches this season. Carter was next in line on the box score with 10 points in the contest thanks to eight kills and two solo blocks. McGinley enjoyed an efficient night, hitting .308 with five kills on 13 swings in the middle.

Emily Curtis registered her fourth consecutive match with 10 digs or more at libero, finishing the night with 15. Keely Hayes earned a double-double on the night with 29 assists and 12 digs. Hayes also aced the Bison three times, one of which was clutch in the second set to tie the score at 24 and the Tigers went on to win the set, 26-24.

Tomorrow, September 17, the Tigers are back in action against Rhode Island and No. 20 Penn State. Clemson will begin the day with the Rams at 1:00 p.m., before taking on the Nittany Lions in the tournament finale at 7:00 p.m.
