CLEMSON, S.C. – After earning his first win and save as a Clemson Tiger last week, senior Chris Heck was named the ACC Pitcher of the Week on Monday.
Heck, a native of Philadelphia, PA, got the win over 19th ranked South Carolina last Wednesday. He pitched 2.1 scoreless innings, struck out four, and did not allow a hit by the Gamecocks. On Sunday, Heck picked up the save against 20th ranked Georgia Tech and helped the Tigers sweep the Yellow Jackets in the ACC weekend series.
After being absent from any college baseball poll for seven weeks, Clemson landed in the Collegiate Baseball top 25 this week thanks to four wins over ranked teams last week.
The Tigers are ranked 23rd in the publication after defeating in-state rival South Carolina 5-4 last Wednesday and sweeping Georgia Tech this past weekend.
Clemson has won eight of its last nine games and stands at 27-17 overall and 8-6 in the ACC. With nine conference games remaining on the schedule, Jack Leggett’s club is in fourth place in the ACC behind Florida State, Wake Forest, and North Carolina.
The Tigers are off this week while taking spring semester exams. Clemson will return to action on Saturday, May 1 versus Virginia beginning at 7 p.m. at Tiger Field.
