Hargrave Takes Over Assistant Coach Role for 23-24 Season

Clemson S.C. – Clemson Gymnastics Head Coach Amy Smith has announced Maddy Hargrave will round out the 2023-24 gymnastics staff as an assistant coach for the remainder of the season. Hargrave will also continue to serve as the director of ops. Prior to her arrival at Clemson in 2022, Hargrave served as an assistant coach at NC State.

“We are thrilled with the official announcement of elevating Maddy into the assistant coaching position,” Head Coach Amy Smith said. “Maddy had been in a hybrid position for the last year, serving as our Director of Ops, but was also coming into the gym and coaching the team. She has been a vital component in building Clemson Gymnastics over the last year and has proven herself day in and day out. She has gone above and beyond and is an absolute asset to the coaching staff and the student-athletes. Her vibrant energy and never-ending positivity make her an absolute joy to work with, so it is an absolute pleasure to announce her promotion to a full-time assistant coaching position.”

Since her initial hiring in October of 2022, Hargrave has assisted the team in recruiting for the inaugural roster.

During her time at NC State, Hargrave assisted with team travel coordination, coordinated practice schedules, managed equipment, and shared event coaching on beam, floor, and vault, and many other key responsibilities.

Hargrave was a four-year gymnast at the University of North Carolina. In her final season, Hargrave achieved a personal best on vault (9.875) against NC State and on floor (9.900) against Kent State. The Westfield, Ind., native posted floor scores of 9.800 or above in nine of 11 meets throughout her senior campaign. Hargrave earned All Eagle Scholastic Team honors and All Eagle First-Team her senior year and was a Tar Heel Leader of Distinction for excellence in athletics leadership.
