Charleston, S.C. – Savannah Grewal carded a five-under 66 in the third round to earn co-medalist honors and Clemson women’s golf finished in third place at the Cougar Classic, held at the Yeamans Hall Club in Hanahan, S.C. Grewal’s first-place finish was the first tournament win of her career. She shared co-medalist honors with former Clemson Invitational champion and current world amateur No. 1, LSU’s Ingrid Lindblad.
After winning the Stage One LPGA Q School qualifier earlier this month, Grewal shined in her first tournament of her final season. The Mississauga, Ontario native finished -16 and broke her own score to par record of -12 set last year at the NCAA Pullman Regional. Grewal’s 197 total score broke a seven-year-old record of 203 set by Alice Hewson at the Schooner Classic in 2016.
Grewal finished the tournament with a school-record 20 birdies, including nine in the second round (most in a single round in school history). Her 20 birdies now gives her 301 for her Clemson career, joining Alice Hewson (381) and Ana Paula Valdez (313) as the only Clemson players with 300 career birdies.
As a team, the Tigers finished at -30 with a program-best 822 team score. This marks the first time in school history the Tigers have shot in the 270s in all three rounds of a tournament. Annabelle Pancake finished the three rounds at -7 and tied for 12th, while Chloe Holder finished at -6 and alone in 14th. Katherine Schuster finished tied for 45th at +1 and Isabella Rawl ended the weekend tied for 50th at +2.
The Tigers are back on the course in early October, traveling with men’s golf to Fayetteville, Ark., for the Blessings Intercollegiate.
